Rejected by automobile companies, this African engineer manufactures his own cars.
Tatenda Mungofa was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and raised in Warren Park – he is a South African based businessman.
Founder of an automotive design company called Mureza Automotive Company, otherwise, Mureza Auto Co.
Between 2007 and 2010, Mungofa tried to find a job with one of the world’s car manufacturers. He applied to design schools and car manufacturing companies without success. At one point, Tatenda Mungofa said he went to interview at Toyota Zimbabwe for an apprenticeship and failed.
In 2012, Mungofa participated in an international car design competition where he came third. The ceremony took place in Croatia and unfortunately he was unable to travel. He said it was then that he realized that if he ever wanted to be involved in the design and manufacture of cars, he would have to do it himself.
He registered Mureza Auto Co in Zimbabwe in 2011 with the help of Christopher Muchechemera. he declared Mungofa in an interview that this collaboration allowed him to manufacture the first Mureza vehicle of his own company called Prim8.
Prim8 is Mureza’s first car, the Prim8 (pronounced PRI-MATE), is equipped with 1.5L and 1.3L gasoline engines. The Prim8 has hatchback and sedan body shapes.
Tatenda Mungofa plans to launch a half-ton pickup to be called T-One which will share many components with the Prim8 and sit on their X200-C platform. He said a panel van version would also be offered on this model line.
A flagship range of TUSKER, PrimX SUV, Athlete and DIAMOND pick-ups. The Athlete according to Mungofa will be the most affordable electric vehicle in the Mureza lineup with a range of 800 km per charge and aiming for a price range between 5,000 and 8,000 USD.
